South Coast Adventure with Glacier Hike Full-Day Tour: After the pick-up in Reykjavik, we are passing the Hellisheiðarvirkjun geothermal power plant, this whole area is covered in steam, which is often visible from the capital.

 

If the weather conditions are ideal, we can see the ice of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and the Westman Islands on the horizon.

Our first stop is the majestic Skógafoss waterfall, one of the most iconic ones in the country. You might remember it from the popular Game of Thrones show, where it played a significant role. Additionally, according to local legends, there exists a hidden treasure concealed behind the waterfall. By attentively listening to the guide, you may have the fortunate opportunity to discover it.

Continuing the tour, we will embark on an exhilarating glacier hike on the Sólheimajökull glacier. This glacier is linked to Mýrdalsjökull, the fourth largest glacier in Iceland. After the safety instructions, the guide will check your equipment, and then it is time to step on the ice. This activity lasts for about 2.5 hours, with 1.5 hours dedicated to exploring the glacier.

Next, we are visiting the world-famous Reynisfjara black sand beach, which was once rated as one of the most beautiful beaches on the whole planet. The surrounding basalt columns offer a spectacular view and are the home to countless puffin families during the summer months.

Before heading back to the capital, we are also showing you the beloved Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which is located right under the infamous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which paralyzed the air traffic of Europe during its 2010 eruption. If the weather is nice enough, we will take you behind the waterfall’s curtains and even show you the somewhat hidden little cousin, Gljúfrabúi, a waterfall hiding in the mountainside.

If you don't like to be on your feet, the glacier hike may not be for you. We will provide you with all the necessary gear but full mobility is required in order to have a safe trip on the glacier. All our guides have a lot of experience with glacier hikes and they will make a final decision whether you are able to participate or not when we arrive at the glacier.
  • Please remember that if a guide refuses to let you go on the glacier, the decision is made with your safety in mind.
    You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the departure for a full refund

What do I need to bring?

  • The tour is operated in all weather conditions, so please dress according to the weather
  • Good hiking boots are required for the glacier hike (minimum crampon size EU 36 / US 5,5 / UK 3,5)
