Glacier Hike Addition for Multiday Tours

Glacier Hike Addition: Add this glacier hike to your tour and explore breathtaking ice formations and moulins while learning how glaciers are formed and how they constantly change. Check out a glacier outlet of either Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Iceland or Mýrdalsjökull, that lies above the active Katla Volcano.  After a short bus ride and a 30-minute walk to the glacier, your guide will provide instructions on gearing up and teach you the safest practices for walking on a glacial surface.

Once you have your crampons and all necessary equipment, it’s time to head out on the ice and begin this once-in-a-life-time adventure. The further you get, the more ice formations you will see. Crevasses for instance, deep cracks in the surface of the glacier.

These formations, also known as moulins, are vertical shafts in the ice that form as melting water flows into fissures and cracks. In the wintertime, it might be possible to peek into small ice tunnels and capture the beautiful blue heart of the ice. You will stay about 1,5 hours on the glacier itself.
