The guide will pick you up from your hotel in Reykjavik in the morning and it is time to visit the three famous sites of the Golden Circle route: Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall and Geysir Geothermal Area.
Þingvellir is not only historically significant, but it is a geographical wonder; it is where the Eurasian and the N-American tectonic plates meet.
At Geysir Geothermal Area, you can watch the geyser Strokkur erupt in a large column of hot water and steam. Dotted around the region are also countless bubbling mud pools and hissing steam vents.
Meltwater from a nearby glacier fuels the impressive Gullfoss Waterfall, and there are several viewpoints from which you can get a great selfie with the cascade in the background.
After exploring the sites of the Golden Circle — perhaps with a detour to Kerið Crater Lake, Skálholt historical site or Efstidalur farm — your guide will take you to the hotel for the evening.
Today, you’ll travel along Iceland’s southern coastline, with massive glaciers in the North and the roaring waves of the Atlantic Ocean to the South.
You will see Seljalandsfoss waterfall, a high and narrow cascade that falls over a large cave. A short drive away is another waterfall, Skógafoss, which is vastly different but equally impressive. The land underneath Skógafoss is very flat, which allows visitors to walk right up to the falling water, so you can take some unique photos here.
The roaring waves of the N-Atlantic ocean come crashing upon the jet-black Reynisfjara Beach. Surrounding the beach are grey cliffs made of hexagonal columns, the oddly shaped Dyrhólaey peninsula, the mighty Mýrdalsjökull glacier, and the sea stacks Reynisdrangar.
You will then travel further East, reaching Vatnajökull National Park in the evening.
Today, you’ll explore Vatnajökull National Park.
You´ll see Skaftafell Nature Reserve, the perfect place for nature-lovers as here you can find some of Iceland’s most staggering natural scenery. Here is where black sands meets a white glacier, and you can find numerous tracks and trails exploring this wonderful region.
You will find the beautiful Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in the heart of Vatnajökull National Park. At the lagoon, enormous icebergs float on a bright blue lake while seals swim around them.
We will visit a natural Blue ice cave today as well which is a once in a lifetime experience for most people so make sure you bring your camera and enjoy.
A short walk away from Jökulsárlón is the Diamond Beach. Scattered on the shores of this black sand beach are small icebergs that have washed up on shore. As they glisten in the sunlight, they look like diamonds on a black velvet blanket.
After that you will head back to the city stopping at sights you may have missed the day before along the south coast
Included: 2 nights hotel accommodation with breakfast and private bathroom, green
fees. English guidance and transport.
