Kleifarvatn è un lago di cratere vulcanico nel sud-ovest dell'Islanda, situato a circa 30 chilometri da Reykjavik nella regione geotermica della penisola di Reykjanes. Kleifarvatn is located within the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark in southwestern Iceland, approximately 30 kilometres south of Reykjavik. It is the largest lake on the Reykjanes Peninsula and occupies an active volcanic rift zone where geothermal features, tectonic fissures, and lava fields characterise the surrounding terrain. The lake's water level is known to fluctuate following seismic events, as underground fissures can drain water into subsurface geological formations, a phenomenon recorded after the 2000 South Iceland earthquake sequence.
