Ettal is a village in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district of Upper Bavaria, Germany, situated at approximately 878 metres in the Graswang Valley within the Ammergau Alps. It is approximately 85 kilometres south of Munich and administratively part of the municipality of Ettal in the Landkreis Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The settlement is defined by the Benedictine Ettal Abbey, founded in 1330, which remains an active monastic community and the primary cultural and historical landmark of the valley.
