Province des Galápagos

Galápagos Province is an autonomous province of Ecuador comprising a volcanic archipelago located approximately 1,000 kilometers west of the South American mainland in the Pacific Ocean. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978, the islands straddle the equator at the convergence of three major ocean currents, creating exceptional biodiversity and high levels of endemism across both terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The province encompasses the Galápagos National Park and the Galápagos Marine Reserve, two of the largest and most rigorously managed protected areas in the world.
