          Tivoli is a town in Lazio, central Italy, located east of Rome in the Tiburtine hills. It is renowned for Villa d'Este, a 16th-century Renaissance villa famous for its ornate fountains, and Villa Gregoriana, set within a dramatic gorge carved by the Aniene River.           Tivoli is a hilltop town in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio region, central Italy, situated at approximately 225 metres above sea level on the western slopes of the Sabine Hills. It lies 30 kilometres east of Rome along the ancient Via Tiburtina. The town is the location of two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Villa d'Este (inscribed 2001) and Villa Adriana (inscribed 1999), administered by the Italian Ministry of Culture and the FAI respectively.
