Rieti Province lies in the Lazio region of central Italy, northeast of Rome. Known as the geographical heart of Italy, it encompasses the Rieti Valley and the Apennine Mountains. Historic towns like Rieti city showcase medieval architecture and religious heritage. Visitors hike through mountain trails, explore Renaissance frescoes in local churches, and tour the valley's olive groves and vineyards.

It contains the geographic center of Italy, the Velino and Salto river valleys, and the Terminillo massif, the highest peak in Lazio at over 2,200 meters. The area holds significant Franciscan heritage through four sanctuaries linked to Saint Francis of Assisi, and includes two Ramsar-listed wetland lakes south of the provincial capital.
