          Ria Formosa Natural Park is a protected coastal lagoon system in the Faro District of southern Portugal's Algarve region. This barrier island ecosystem features salt marshes, shallow waters, and diverse bird populations. The park encompasses around 18,000 hectares and includes small islands, channels, and fishing villages. Visitors explore the area by boat, hike coastal trails, observe migratory birds, and sample fresh seafood at traditional restaurants.
          Ria Formosa Natural Park is a protected coastal lagoon system located in the Faro District of the Algarve region in southern Portugal, classified as a Special Protection Area under European Union habitat directives. The park encompasses approximately 18,400 hectares of barrier islands, tidal mudflats, salt pans, and maritime scrubland, and forms part of the Natura 2000 network. Content is based on established geographic and ecological knowledge of the destination as of 2025.
