More to know about Ponte de Lima

Ponte de Lima is a historic town in the Viana do Castelo district of northern Portugal. Known for its medieval stone bridge spanning the Lima River and well-preserved medieval architecture, the town serves as a cultural hub. Visitors explore the cobblestone streets, visit the castle ruins and churches, attend the twice-yearly medieval fair, and enjoy local wine tastings in traditional establishments.
Ponte de Lima is located in the Minho region of northwestern Portugal, within the Lima River valley approximately 25 km northeast of Viana do Castelo and 70 km north of Braga. It is recognized as the oldest municipality in Portugal, with documented history dating to a royal charter of 1125, and sits within one of the country's most important vinho verde wine-producing territories. The surrounding landscape is part of the broader Alto Minho subregion, bordering Peneda-Gerês National Park to the east and the Spanish province of Pontevedra to the north.
