Hermopolis

Hermopolis Magna, identified with the modern archaeological zone of El Ashmunein in Minya Governorate, Egypt, was one of antiquity's great religious centers, dedicated to Thoth and representing a continuous settlement from the pre-dynastic period through the Byzantine era. Its geographic position on the west bank of the Nile, directly opposite Akhenaten's capital of Akhetaten, places it at the intersection of multiple defining episodes in Egyptian history.
