El Cotillo is a coastal village located on the northwestern tip of Fuerteventura, the second-largest of Spain's Canary Islands, situated in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 100 kilometres off the coast of southern Morocco. The village is administered under the municipality of La Oliva and sits at coordinates roughly 28.68 degrees north, 14.01 degrees west. Its distinctive character derives from its position on a lee coastline shaped by northeast trade winds, which drive both its surf culture and its natural lagoon formations.
