          More to know about Vergina

Vergina is an archaeological site in northern Greece, in the region of Macedonia. It was the ancient capital of Macedon and is home to the Royal Tombs, including the tomb of Philip II, discovered in 1977. The site contains well-preserved Macedonian royal burials with intricate artifacts. Visitors explore the underground museum housing golden crowns, armor, and pottery from the classical period.
Vergina occupies the site of ancient Aigai, the original capital of the Macedonian kingdom, in the Imathia regional unit of Central Macedonia, northern Greece. The site was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996 following the landmark 1977 excavation by archaeologist Manolis Andronikos, which uncovered intact royal tombs including artifacts attributed to Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. The modern settlement of Vergina lies approximately 13 kilometres southeast of the regional city of Veria and around 75 kilometres west of Thessaloniki.
