Dion is located in the Pieria regional unit of Central Macedonia, northern Greece, approximately 85 kilometers southwest of Thessaloniki. The site sits on a low-lying plain between Mount Olympus and the Thermaic Gulf, within the municipality of Dion-Olympos. Archaeological excavations, led by the University of Thessaloniki since the 1920s and expanded from the 1970s onward, have uncovered sanctuaries, civic buildings, baths, and a theater spanning the Classical, Hellenistic, and Roman periods. The site and its associated museum are managed by the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports.
