Covadonga is located in the municipality of Cangas de Onis, Asturias, northern Spain, within the protected boundaries of Picos de Europa National Park. It occupies a limestone gorge at approximately 260 meters above sea level, with the associated Lagos de Covadonga rising to around 1,100 meters. The site is recognized as the symbolic birthplace of the Kingdom of Asturias and holds national heritage status in Spain.
